The contours were created from the 2016 statewide lidar are have 1 foot contour intervals for the first time. Each zipped file for download contains a geodatabase and a metadata xml file. If you cannot use files that are inside a geodatabase for any reason, such as your preferred software (e.g. AutoCAD), please send a kind email to clear@uconn.edu that includes your area of interest (the full blocks are too big for shapefiles) and we will happily export the contours a shapefile for you.  Shapefiles can be imported into most software programs.
