Finding and Assessing Data on the Geodata Portal
The GIS Office’s mission is to improve the coordination of geospatial data throughout the state. The office's aim is to ensure everyone has access to authoritative data sets, interactive maps, and visualizations. This includes executive agencies, research academics, regional planners, municipal governments, and more.
Finding Raster and Map Layers
Steps
- Click the search icon in the top right corner of the home page.
- Enter the name of the desired layer

- If name is not known search CT ECO to the search bar to see all available layers
- Select desired data by clicking the blue link, which servers as the title
- The portal view is the default. To view the details of the layer select the View Full Details button
Buttons in the Viewer
- To remove the details of the layer away from the viewer click the information icon
- Click the Search button to view a specific location within the data layer.
- Note: The search will take the map anywhere in the world, even if it is outside the boundaries of the data layer.
- Click the legend icon to view the legend of the current layer.
- Use the + and – icons or the scroll wheel on the mouse to zoom in and out of the map
- Click the Home button to have the viewer be reset to the default position.
Movement
- Scroll wheel: Another way to zoom in and out of the map.
- Right click and drag: Drags the map into whichever direction.
- Left click and drag: Rotates the map into whichever direction.
